Introduction

The Prestashop connector from Locale allows you to select specific content from your Prestashop instance and quickly send it to be translated. By automating this process, you can quickly scale the presence of all your products into global markets. And by connecting it with your existing workflows, you don’t need to make changes to your translation provider, whether it’s a single person, a translation agency (LSP) or even an MT server.

What you’ll need to get started

  1. The Login link for Locale (https://app.locale.to/en/)

  2. The login link for your Prestashop instance.

    1. Note: This is provided to you by your PrestaShop account manager, support team, or contact person. If you are unsure of this information, please contact your system administrator or your PrestaShop representative.

  3. User login information for both your Locale instance, and your PrestaShop instance

    1. A trial account of Locale can also be taken for free by going to locale.to and selecting the “Get Started” button

Enabling languages in your PrestaShop instance

To ensure that Locale is able to translate content into the languages you require for your project, it’s necessary to enable these languages as well within your PrestaShop instance.

  1. From the main dashboard, select the International menu, and choose Localization, followed by the Languages tab.

  2. In the top right corner, it’s possible to Add new language to your instance as well. Simply click here and specify the required information for Language name, ISO code, Language code, and Flag. (As well as the other date formats, but they were already configured properly in our instance below).

    1. To ensure Locale can access the content in your instance, make sure that the language code used in your Prestashop instance matches the language code for the project in Locale. If they do not match, this can cause an error when accessing content for translation.

  3. Once added, select Save and you’ll see the newly added language in your instance.

  4. As a last step, be sure to Enable the language in the language menu (above and below) to ensure it can be published in your instance. As you can see below, German has been added to our instance, but has not been enabled, this means translations will not be available for this language. Simply toggle the switch to make sure all the necessary languages have been enabled.

    1. Note: As you can also see here, when you delete a language all related translations in the database will also be deleted.
