Introduction

Empower your team with effortless localization management with the help of the ButterCMS connector. With just a few clicks, you’ll be on your way to automating your localization workflows for all your page and collection content and descriptions, and still keep the existing localization workflows you and your team are used to. Simplify your localization process and experience the difference with the ButterCMS connector from Locale.

What you’ll need to get started

  1. The Login link for Locale (https://app.locale.to/en/)

  2. An enterprise version of ButterCMS, or at least the activated Write API Token option.

    1. Note: This is located in your ButterCMS instance, Locale does not have access to this nor do we provide this information. If you do not possess the correct credentials to access this information, please contact your system administrator or your ButterCMS representative.

  3. User login information for both your Locale instance, and your ButterCMS instance

    1. A trial account of Locale can also be taken for free by going to locale.to and selecting the “Get Started” button

Adding the ButterCMS Connector to Locale

  1. Start by accessing Locale with your username and password.

  2. Once logged into Locale (instructions on that can be found here) you’ll see a Dashboard which looks something like this image below.

  3. Select the Add Project button and you’ll be presented with the Locale Connector Store.

  4. Select the CMS option in the menu filter to the left, and select the Create Project button under ButterCMS in the first row.

  5. The next step will require you to enter Access API token and Collections information to proceed.

    1. To find the Access API Token information, start by accessing the Settings menu, and the General tab. In the API Tokens menu, copy the Write API Token and paste this into Locale.

      1. If your menu looks like the screenshot instead of showing an API token, you’ll need to speak with your ButterCMS representative and ensure you have an Enterprise version

    2. For the Collections information, simply make note of the Collections you’d like to translate from the Collections menu on the left

  6. And enter these into Locale, separated with a comma but without spaces between each individual collection name.

Once you’ve added these components, select Next to create a Locale project with the ButterCMS Connector.

Creating a Locale project with the ButterCMS Connector

Once you’ve followed the steps above to configure the ButterCMS connector, you’re ready to create a project.

  1. Start by entering the source and target languages for your instance and selecting Add Project.

  2. Locale will automatically calculate the number of words which need to be translated for your project.

  3. And provide the option to push them for translation.

  4. Once the translation step has been completed, the status will update in Locale, and the content will be delivered into your ButterCMS instance.
