Introduction

The Directus connector from Locale aims to harness the power of automation and apply it to your translation workflows. Our connector can seamlessly integrate your Directus instance and it’s translatable fields to Locale for fast, easy, automated localization and internationalization workflows. Easily send your content to your trusted TMS, contact person, or LSP of choice for quick and easy processing.

What you’ll need to get started

  1. The Login link for Locale (https://app.locale.to/en/)

  2. The login link for your Directus instance.

    1. Note: This is provided to you by your Directus account manager, support team, or contact person. If you are unsure of this information, please contact your system administrator or your Directus representative.

  3. User login information for both your Locale instance, and your Directus instance

    1. A trial account of Locale can also be taken for free by going to locale.to and selecting the “Get Started” button

Supported content types & limitations

  • Supported Fields

Any collection types defined in the data model can be supported supported (Ex. articles, pages, blogs). But they can only contain the following content types:

    • Input fields

    • Textarea fields

    • WYSIWYG fields

    • Markdown fields

  • Limitations

    • If a technical field has been added in the translations collection other than "slug" and the data type falls under "string" and is not being used as a foreign key/primary key, it will be marked as translatable. This could have the unintended consequence of URL content being translated which should not be translated.

Creating a Directus project for translation in Locale

To continue with this process, first ensure you have properly configured the Directus connector with your Locale instance. Information on these steps can be found in our article Configuring the Directus Connector.

  1. To create a project in Locale, you’ll first need to add the Directus connector to your Locale instance. For more information on these steps, please see our article Configuring the Directus connector.

  2. After adding the Directus connector to your Locale instance, select the source and target languages for your project and select Add Project.

    1. Note: The target languages must also be enabled in your Directus instance for the translations to be properly inserted into your required Directus projects.

  3. Locale will automatically connect to your Directus instance, and perform an analysis on the content that needs to be translated.

  4. Once the content has been analyzed, Locale will display the number of words and segments which require translation

  5. Select the green “Push Content” button in the top right corner to choose from your options of sending content to your LSP of choice, TMS system, or an MT engine for processing.

  6. Using the MT option as an example, once this step has been completed and the translations have been delivered back to your Locale instance, they will be made available in your Directus instance automatically, and your Locale instance will update with the Complete translation status.
